About Robert D. Griffin

The Baritone of Gospel

Robert Demetrius Griffin began singing at just five years old, launching a lifelong journey in the performing arts. From early childhood, he traveled extensively, nationally and internationally, singing, performing, and teaching music. Known affectionately as the baritone of gospel, Demetrius blended jazz, traditional, and classical influences into a sound instantly recognizable to the ear. His distinct high falsetto and remarkable vocal range set him apart as a rare and gifted artist.
Over the years, he graced countless stages, appearing in musical productions on and off Broadway, concerts, live recordings, studio sessions, and, most meaningfully to him, as a minstrel in churches across the country. In 2009, Demetrius produced “The Sound of Worship,” a gospel album with 19 tracks including his masterpiece "My Desire." Demetrius Griffin and The Griffin Experience, known for their harmonies and high-energy praise and worship delivered a timeless soul-stirring work of art before a packed audienc. The album is available on Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. Demetrius became one of the nation’s most sought after music ministers, collaborating with leading figures in both gospel and secular music.

Entrepreneurship

For nearly three decades, he soared to extraordinary heights as a recording artist, vocalist, instructor, songwriter, arranger, choral director, consultant, and industry executive. As CEO of GrifCo. Music Group, a premier multimedia production company, he wrote songs for many renowned artists and shaped the sound of emerging talent. He also founded The School of One Voice (S.O.O.V.), a full service vocal training institution dedicated to cultivating vocal excellence. For 16 years, S.O.O.V. guided countless students through their musical development, with recital audiences consistently amazed by the progress achieved in such a short time. Demetrius’ heart for ministry extended far beyond the stage. He partnered with churches and Christian organizations across the country, helping to build and strengthen exceptional music ministries. Within The Gospel Music Workshop of America, he served in multiple leadership roles, remaining deeply committed to Chairman of the Board Bishop Albert L. Jamison and Vice Chairman Bishop Brian Moore.

Masterful Legacy

We pay homage to this musical genius because his life’s work transcended performance and became a gift to everyone who encountered it. His artistry was not merely skillful, it was transformative. Through his mastery of sound, his innovative approach to music, and his unwavering commitment to excellence, Demetrius elevated every stage, every classroom, and every sanctuary he touched. His voice shaped experiences, his leadership shaped communities, and his legacy continues to shape generations of musicians who follow in his footsteps. Honoring him is not simply a celebration of his talent, it is a recognition of the profound imprint he left on the world through music, mentorship, and ministry.
